I’m new to the backpacking scene and so far have experienced very different types of trips. The first trip was up with a bigger group of people and we ended up having a good amount of down time the first few days. The second trip was much more strenuous and covered more miles. While they were very different trips, the common denominator for me was that I always looked forward to meal time. We noshed on backpacker dehydrated meals for dinner, of course, but that still left A WHOLE LOTTA eating to do. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack…are you getting the drift that I like to eat often? 😉
The tricky part is that when you’re out in the wilderness, you’re left eating whatever you thought of and planned on ahead of time. Now, being a planner by nature, you’d think I would have nailed this from the get go, but boy was that not the case at all. Instead, I was left with food envy ON BOTH TRIPS. Luckily, I was with friends and they shared, but it got me thinking about my master snack list if you will. The amount you decide on bringing will of course depend on whether you’re sharing with friends and how long you’ll be out there + what kind of trip you’re gearing up for, but either way this list will have you feeling good as gold during your time on the trail.
